The
exhibits originate from the period of 17th century until the modern
age. The collection of fine arts includes paintings, sculptures,
graphics and drawings. The works of foreign and national art are
found in the numerous collections of paintings. The department
also has a considerable number of icons – Russian, Romanian and of
the authors from this region. The Museum keeps the works of great
artistic quality, of the famous authors such as Nikola Nešković,
Jovan Popović, Nikolae Popesku, Paja Jovanović, Uroš Predić, Svetislav
Vuković, Karel Napravnik, Franjo Radočaj, Ivan Radović, Zoran Petrović...
There are also the works of Hungarian painters and sculptors from
the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the
20th century, among whom the most eminent are Mihalj Munkači, Mark
Erne, Nađ Ištvan, Mark Lajoš, Istok Janoš, Damko Jožef, as well
as the artists from the local community, Perješi Lajoš, Tomas Antal
and others. The Russian artists are represented by Nikolaj Kuznjecov,
Ananije Verbicki, Petar Aleksandrović Samonov,...
The collection of the applied art consists of the collections of
furniture, ceramics, glass and metal objects from the second half
of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Medals and plaques from the
19th and 20th centuries are also kept in this department.
The works of contemporary art have been collected and the events
at the national fine arts scene have been followed.
The Town Museum organizes and develops the rich exhibitional tradition,
especially in the field of fine arts.
The department of art consists of about 1,500 objects.
With the wish to stimulate the development of the fine arts in this
region, to encourage young people to creative work, the Fine Arts
Manifestation of children and young people “The Award of Paja Jovanović”
was established in 1959, on the hundredth anniversary of the birth
of the famous Vršac painter, Paja Jovanović. Since 1967 the award
for the most imaginative work has been given, at the suggestion of
the painter Zoran Petrović. The exhibition of children's works is
opened every year on 4 June, on the day of Paja Jovanović's birth,
when the awards and commendations are given to the most successful
participants.
